Exciting Football Games

What  fun  it  has  been  to  watch  some  tremendous  football  games  in  recent  weeks. My  favorite, of  course,  was  Oklahoma’s  stunning  upset  of  Alabama  in  the  Sugar  Bowl.   The Sooners  were  16  1/2  to  17  1/2  point  underdogs,  and  I  predicted  the  Crimson  Tide  would  prevail, 35  to  10.  Oh,  ye  of  little  faith. How  about  the  national  championship  duel?   Florida  State  and  Auburn  trading   three touchdowns  in  the  final  4  1/2  minutes  and   the  Seminoles  scoring  the  winning  TD  with  only 13  seconds  remaining.  Great  drama. Texas  A&M-Duke,  Missouri-Oklahoma  State,  Clemson-Ohio  State,  and  Michigan  State-Stanford were  also  thrillers. On  the  NFL’s  Wild  Card  weekend,  we ...

Fun Day On The Golf Course

Our eighth annual Celebrity Golf Classic was held this week at the Calabasas Country Club with proceeds going to our son Ross’ non-profit organization, Stillpoint Family Resoures. Stillpoint counsels and educates individuals and families in crisis. It has seven offices in Southern California and 12 qualified clinicans are on the staff. They save lives. Over 130 golfers and celebrities participated this year in the “scramble” tournament and the dinner which followed. I’m appreciative of the friends and people we met for the first time for giving us a day out of their busy schedules to support a worthy cause. It was a fun day with perfect weather for the eighth straight year. Our guests enjoyed a breakfast, an In-N-Out lunch on the course,...

You gotta love highschool football

I can’t tell you how happy I am announcing Southern California highschool football every Friday night for Fox Sports West Prep Zone. The enthusiasm of the players, coaches and fans are tremendous and it is a pleasure to describe the skills of the 17 and 18 year olds who play. I’ve been fortunate to have so many exciting games this fall and see some outstanding football talent on display. I’ve been a play-by-play announcer for a long time, having the privilege of working football, basketball, and baseball games. A prep gridiron duel I broadcast last month ranks in my top five among thousands of sporting events that I have announced. Hart of Newhall faced Chaminade of West Hills and the contest went to overtime with Hart prevailing, 55 to 54. At...
